Happy Father's Day!
The first observance of a "Father's Day" was held on July 5, 1908, in Fairmont, West Virginia, in the Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church South, now known as Central United Methodist Church. Grace Golden Clayton was mourning the loss of her father when, on December 1907, the Monongah Mining Disaster in nearby Monongah killed 361 men, 250 of them fathers, leaving around a thousand fatherless children. Clayton suggested her pastor Robert Thomas Webb to honor all those fathers.
Although not as popular as Mother's Day, it's popular to celebrate Father's Day by hoisting a few beers and hanging around that ancient cooking tradition-the fire pit and of course, enjoying one's favorite sporting event.

dad with something decadent and delicious -an ice-cream float fizzing
beer! Pour 8 oz. Of beer in a glass then spoon on two scoops of ice
cream. Here are a couple of ideas to try:
- Chocolate & vanilla-pair a rich chocolate stout such as Young's Double Chocolate Stout with sweet vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce
- Citrus Splash using pale ales like Samuel Adams IPA, have citrus and floral notes that taste great with tangy sorbets like lemon, lime or peach.
- Irish Cream- a scoop of zingy mint chip ice cream is the perfect complement to the rich, caramelized taste of Guinness.
- Java Heaven-coffee loving dads will enjoy pairing coffee ice cream with an espresso stout such as Flying Dog's Kujo Imperial Coffee Stout.
